Kingdom of Toys

Kingdom of Toys

The endless joys

Of two brothers wandering the Kingdom of Toys

The gold gates are guarded by wooden knights with no names

They never join in the games

It's your bright grin

That convinces them to let us in

Lakes of fizzy orange pop

Spongey cake mountaintops

Scaling chocolate towers

Overlooking taffy flowers

Sailing on rubber duck boats

A local nutcracker yells "Beware of the three guh-lack motes!"

Confused, we ask, "Are they dangerous?"

"No!" she replies, "Just ambidextrous!"

The sun sets with colors that baffle

As we join the gathering in the castle

The Kingdom turns silent

Two figures enter wearing robes of scarlet

The people are locked in a trance

As the toy king and queen begin to dance

Joking jesters twirl in delight

Reciting poems made of light

But your voice is all I hear

As the audience erupts in cheer

Suddenly, a wind-up blue jay lands in my palm

With a twist it flies off, singing the secret psalm

Which becomes a duet with a broken dove

Ascending to the unending above

We sit by the lake, cheesy shooting stars gliding through the skies

While you tell cheesier jokes that make me roll my eyes

You get a crowd going for a while

Even the knights can't help but smile

As the stars begin to laugh

I grab a clicky cyan camera for a photograph

Before I can snap, out calls the gentle voice of the sun

"Yes, take photos before the day is done!"

"But is a moment like this worth only fading glances?"

I return to the joke-making jubilee, not taking any chances

Now comes a round of robot combat, build them up strong, indeed

Punches, kicks, and blocks fly at supersonic speeds

And when the epic battle is at an end

"Put them back together, we gotta do this again!"

That night, like many before, ended at the royal arcade

Endless screens flickered in a brilliant cascade

A royal gaming competition with a grand prize

A cookie pizza of enormous size

We cracked our knuckles and approached the machines

I chuckled and said, "That pizza belongs to me!"

Bleeps blared, neon lights flashed

How did you move so fast?

You won in a triumphant glee

But broke off a piece for me

I held the piece in dramatic disgrace

As a proud smirk formed on your face

"Next time win it yourself, okay?'

We sat down, ate together, and brainstormed for the next day

And now it seems

The doors of the Kingdom won't open for me

Now I'm weaving together threads of joy

From the memories of those toys

And those moments I shared with you

You remember them too?

The robots, the treats, the royal dancers

An endless tome of adventures

The ragged rhythms of life may leave me tired and broken

But, one day, I'll knock and the doors will open

I can already see your sunny smile shine

I promise you'll get the whole pizza this time
